In 2012, we ventured into an abandoned insane asylum, intent on documenting the unique acoustics of a Kirkbride design. As we navigated the decaying halls, we stumbled upon several forgotten boxes, each filled with neglected audio recordings. Among the tapes, we uncovered a haunting collection of patient interviews, hypnosis sessions, and experimental audio treatments, each offering an eerie glimpse into the past.
After listening to a selection of the recordings, a unique idea began to take shape. We felt compelled to weave fictional narratives around the real-life tapes we had uncovered. These stories are primarily told through the music we create, but they also spill over into other forms of media. By integrating the original audio recordings into these expansive projects, we began to blur the boundaries between fact and fiction.
Each story revolves around a unique patient, shaped by the information we extract from their recorded sessions. As we piece together the gaps in their fictionalized narratives, the process allows us to explore unconventional storytelling techniques and create distinct soundscapes. We try to push the boundaries of the narrative and the audio, crafting an experience that feels both immersive and experimental.
